From the sampling point to the recorded data: the project covers the entire measurement chain.

ABB CEMS

A complete system, including the analyser

A CEMS combines sampling, sample treatment, measurement and data acquisition. Selection starts with the required components and plant requirements; documentation for the specific configuration must be checked for the project.

Architectures to consider

SolutionApplication assessment
Extractive system with dedicated modulesSelection of measurement principles for each component, sample conditioning and signal integration.
Multi-component FTIR · ABB ACF5000Emissions monitoring system: check components, ranges and options against the ABB documentation.
Complementary measurementsAdditional O₂, moisture, dust or flow measurements as required by the calculation basis and requested data.

What to clarify in the enquiry

  • List of pollutants and other parameters to be acquired.
  • Measuring ranges, normal conditions and start-up transients.
  • Required dry/wet basis, units and reference conditions.
  • System documentation and certification requirements.
  • Handling of calibrations, maintenance states and invalid data.
  • Interfaces with the DCS and data acquisition system; scope boundaries.

ACF5000 · Hot sample and multi-component measurement

ABB datasheet revision M describes a heated measurement chain with an FTIR spectrometer, zirconia O₂ sensor and optional FID. The ACF5000 LCS variant is intended for lower ranges and includes a specific filter assembly and cabinet conditioning arrangement.

To maintain controlled temperatures and protective functions, sampling must use the assemblies specified by ABB. Custom integration must respect these requirements.

Process oxygen and emissions data

An O₂ measurement for burner control and one used in an emissions monitoring system may have different installation points, requirements and validations. Comparing the readings requires knowledge of the measurement basis, moisture and possible air ingress between the two points.

Information for a quotation

To select a CEMS, send us the following information, even if preliminary:

  • Components to be measured, background gas and expected interferents.
  • Normal, minimum and maximum ranges; units and dry or wet basis.
  • Pressure and temperature at the sampling point; moisture, dust and condensable components.
  • Required response time, number of points and distance from the sampling point.
  • Area classification, indoor/outdoor installation, available signals and utilities.
  • Monitoring specification, component list and data acquisition/validation requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Is a process analyser automatically a CEMS?

No. The complete system and configuration must be checked against the requirements applicable to the project.

Can one technology cover every parameter?

Not necessarily. The system may require complementary technologies and instruments.
