Mechanical ON/OFF control

Industrial temperature switches

Mechanical temperature switches for alarms, permissives, trips and protection at a temperature threshold. This section covers mechanical rather than electronic switches.

Multibrand supply: we can supply mechanical temperature switches from manufacturers such as WIKA and Te.Ma Vasconi, selecting to the specification without favouring one brand over another.
Types

Bimetal or gas-actuated?

Bimetal temperature switch

Bimetal temperature switch

Compact and simple, it uses bimetallic-element deflection to operate a microswitch at the threshold.

Selection guide

Setpoint, hysteresis and contacts

SetpointTemperature at which the contact must change state.
Reset differentialThe temperature change required before the contact returns to its initial state.
ContactSPDT, DPDT or multiple contacts according to series and required logic.
Direct mounting or capillaryA capillary keeps the enclosure away from the process and in an accessible position.
Range and maximum temperatureCheck the required threshold against the sensing system's limits.
Hazardous areas and safetyATEX, IECEx, Ex d/Ex ia and SIL are checked for the specific series and configuration.
Certifications

ATEX, IECEx and SIL

Not every version automatically carries the same certifications.

ATEX

Configurations for potentially explosive atmospheres according to protection method and zone.

IECEx

International certification for projects requiring Ex compliance beyond the EU market.

SIL

For safety functions, we select suitable functional-safety series and verify the required level.

Do you have an older temperature switch?

Send us a photograph or nameplate, setpoint, range, capillary, connection, contacts, electrical load and certifications. We can propose a WIKA, Te.Ma Vasconi or other manufacturer's equivalent suited to the specification.

FAQ

Temperature switch FAQ

What is the difference between bimetal and gas-actuated switches?

Bimetal switches are compact and simple. Gas-actuated switches are often preferred for remote capillary installations or process and safety applications.

What is a temperature switch setpoint?

The temperature at which the contact changes state. Reset normally occurs after a temperature change defined by the reset differential or hysteresis.

Does a mechanical temperature switch need power?

The sensing element needs no power to detect temperature. The microswitch is connected to the plant's electrical circuit.

Are ATEX, IECEx and SIL temperature switches available?

Yes. Specific series offer ATEX/IECEx hazardous-area versions and SIL functional-safety configurations. Verify certification for the selected configuration.
