Mechanical pressure measurement

Industrial pressure gauges

Mechanical instruments for local pressure readings without a power supply. We select the technology for the range, fluid, accuracy, materials, vibration and installation conditions.

Multibrand supply: Geyser IC can supply gauges from leading international and Italian manufacturers, including WIKA and Te.Ma Vasconi, selecting a solution to the customer's specification without restricting the proposal to one model.
Types

Which measurement principle is required?

Bourdon pressure gauges
General purpose

Bourdon pressure gauges

The most common mechanical solution for medium and high gauge pressures in compatible liquids and gases. Suitable for pumps, compressors, pneumatic and hydraulic circuits, skids and process lines.

Diaphragm pressure gauges
Demanding processes

Diaphragm pressure gauges

Suitable for low pressures, high overload capacity, and viscous, dirty, aggressive or particle-laden fluids, with materials and connections selected for the process.

Capsule pressure gauges
Low pressures

Capsule pressure gauges

For low positive and negative pressures in dry, non-aggressive gases. Typical applications include HVAC, filtration, cleanrooms, laboratories and ventilation.

Differential pressure gauges
ΔP

Differential pressure gauges

Measure the difference between two pressures for filters, fans, pumps, heat exchangers, level and flow applications.

Absolute pressure gauges
Absolute vacuum reference

Absolute pressure gauges

Measure relative to absolute vacuum, where atmospheric pressure changes must not affect the reading, such as vacuum processes and distillation.

Pressure gauges with electrical contacts
Indication + threshold

Pressure gauges with electrical contacts

Combine local mechanical indication with one or more adjustable electrical contacts for alarms, permissives or control. Magnetic, inductive, reed or microswitch contacts may be available depending on the series.

Selection guide

Six details that define the gauge

1. Pressure typeGauge, vacuum or compound, absolute or differential.
2. Scale rangeNormal pressure should not operate continuously near full scale. Pulsations and peaks require additional margin.
3. Accuracy and dial sizeSelect the accuracy class and dial diameter for readability and measurement criticality.
4. Wetted partsBrass or copper alloys, AISI 316L or special materials according to chemical compatibility.
5. Process dynamicsVibration and pulsation may require liquid filling, a damper or remote installation.
6. Connection and environmentConnection, position, IP rating, temperature, hazardous area and regulatory requirements.
Quick selection

Bourdon, diaphragm or capsule?

TechnologyWhen we select itKey advantage
BourdonGeneral industrial applications and medium to high pressures.Simplicity, robustness and wide availability.
DiaphragmLow pressures, viscous, dirty or aggressive fluids, or high overload requirements.Separation from the mechanism and greater overload resistance.
CapsuleVery low positive or negative pressures in dry gases.High sensitivity to small pressure differences or values.
Actual operating conditions

Vibration, pulsation and temperature

Vibration and pulsating pressure

For pumps, compressors and pulsating lines, we can assess liquid-filled cases, pulsation dampers or remote mounting to stabilise readings and protect the mechanism.

Steam and high temperature

If fluid temperature exceeds instrument limits, protect the gauge with a siphon, cooling element or suitable remote configuration.

Electrical contacts

When indication and switching are needed in one instrument

Gauge with contacts

Primarily a local indicator, it also switches a contact when pressure crosses an adjustable threshold.

Useful where operators need to see pressure and a simple alarm or control signal is also required.

Dedicated pressure switch

Designed primarily for switching. Select it when the threshold, repeatability, enclosure or safety requirements are the priority.

Available certifications and contact types depend on manufacturer and series. For SIL safety functions, we normally assess a dedicated certified pressure switch.

Multibrand replacements

Do you have an old gauge to replace?

The new instrument does not need to be the same brand.

Send us a photograph or nameplate, scale range, dial diameter, process connection and material. We can propose a WIKA, Te.Ma Vasconi or other manufacturer's equivalent suitable for the specification.

FAQ

Pressure gauge FAQ

When should I choose a Bourdon gauge?

It is the most common choice for medium and high gauge pressures in compatible liquids and gases, when simple, robust local indication is required.

When is a diaphragm gauge useful?

Particularly for low pressures, high overload capacity or viscous, dirty, corrosive or particle-laden fluids, using suitable materials and connections.

What is a capsule gauge used for?

Very low positive and negative pressures, especially with dry, non-aggressive gases, such as HVAC, filtration and cleanrooms.

When is a differential gauge used?

To monitor the pressure difference between two points, such as filters, fans, pumps, heat exchangers, level or flow systems.

What is the difference between gauge and absolute pressure?

Gauge pressure uses atmospheric pressure as its reference. Absolute pressure is referenced to absolute vacuum and is therefore independent of barometric changes.

What is a gauge with electrical contacts used for?

It combines local mechanical indication with one or more electrical contacts operating at set thresholds for alarms, permissives or control.

When is a liquid-filled case useful?

With vibration and pulsation, it damps pointer movement and improves readability and mechanism life.

How do I choose a pressure gauge range?

Allow suitable margin above operating pressure, with more for pulsations or peaks. Then check accuracy, dial size, materials, connection and environmental conditions.
